Angelo

Angel

The angel’s face emerges from the weave of marks:
lines as fine as veins of light, in the luminous tremor that brushes the brow, a suspended calm envelops the gaze.

Its wings do not appear, yet they are sensed; its being seems to listen to a far-off song—perhaps the memory of a sky, perhaps the desire to remain on earth for just one more moment.

Everything is engraved with the patience of time:
skin like dawn-paper,
a mouth grazing a smile just born,
light settling on the cheeks like silver dust.

The etching does not portray an angel:
it evokes one.

It is a held-back apparition,
a face that does not look, but blesses.
Its wings do not appear, yet they are sensed.

Etching

The etching, an indirect engraving technique, derives its name from the Latin "aquafortis," referring to the acid used: nitric acid. Typically, etchings are numbered from 1 to 100, but I have chosen to create more limited editions to provide further value to the works.

Proces

Etching is a metal engraving technique used to create images. The process begins by covering a plate of copper or zinc with an acid-resistant varnish. The artist then engraves the design into the varnish, exposing the underlying metal.

The plate is then immersed in an acid bath, corrodes the exposed areas, creating the engravings. After rinsing, ink is applied to the plate, which is then pressed onto paper to transfer the image.
